Blogiversary + News
Today marks two years of Mimi & Meg. It's been so much fun posting and writing, and I hope to continue blogging for a long time. I obviously don't do it for the money (since I don't make any doing it at this point), but simply because I enjoy it. It's like an aesthetic journal that I'm figuring out along the way.
I guess this is a good time to tell you all some news. I've struggled with whether or not to even bring this into my blog, but since I do post some personal things, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to leave this part of my life out of my blog. But it's my life, and it's something I'm really excited about.
My husband has joined the U.S. Air Force. So over the past few months I've been learning about the military and all the things that go with the military lifestyle (I even bought A Family's Guide to the Military for Dummies, which is pretty helpful). I'm also learning that things always change. So I feel like I never have any absolute answers. C is leaving in January for two years of extensive training because he is going into the Special Forces of the Air Force. I don't think this date will change considering it already has once, but again, you never know. I am really happy for C to start this career. I think it will be challenging and really exciting for him.
I am planning to stay in Kansas City during his training, and reevaluate after he is done and gets stationed at a base. I have no idea what the next two years will be like. I know I will miss him greatly between the times I will get to see him. But I am so happy for him, and support his decision 100% that I try to remain focused on the positive. I'm an optimist, so it's probably easier for me than others, but I'm also realistic and I do think about and prepare myself for being without him. I just wanted to let you all know what was going on, and why I haven't been posting as often as I usually do. I don't plan to write about it often, or change my blog, but I'm sure it will come up. Hopefully I'll have some fun stories and photos from traveling to share with everyone.

Spook Spectacular
Me as Rachel Zoe
I actually owned most of the items for this costume, so it was pretty easy to put together.
Skulls and streamers upon entering the bathroom
My dinner party gals: (back row) me as Rachel Zoe, Lauren as Julia Childs, Morgan as Wendy, (front row) Tobe as Jill from Jack & Jill, Amy as a Dia de los Muertos Skeleton, Laura as Russel from Pixar's "UP", and Carrie as Simon from Simon & Garfunkel

Hosts Mischa & Amy; Guests Mirna & Chris
My favorite photo of the night: Morgan & Dan dressed as Wendy & Ronald McDonald
Amy & Mischa had covered every inch of their artsy loft in spiderwebs and Halloween décor.
A truly memorable costume. Laura and Eric came as Russel and Carl Fredricksen from Pixar's "Up". Read more about this handmade costume here.
Even the food was made in spirit of spooky. Amy made homemade bat-shaped tortilla chips. Laura made mummy-wrapped cupcakes. Creative people for sure.
Carrie & Zack came as Simon & Garfunkel; Eric & Tobe as Jack & Jill (I think we all know now how "Jack fell down and broke his crown..."
Kitsky is one of Amy & Mischa's cats. Monkey stayed hidden most of the night, but not Kitsky, he was in the middle of the action. Seriously big cat. So funny!
Guest Post: You're Invited to...A Very Important Date!
Camille from Style Notes here, and I'm thrilled to be guesting on Mimi & Meg today! I've always been enchanted by Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and next March's release of the movie à la Tim Burton is sure to bring even more magic & mystery to the tale. I've seen some great riffs on the Mad Hatter's Tea Party done before, but I'd like to go a bit more modern with a whimsical, colorful Wonderland-inspired cocktail party.
Whisps of the palest cotton candy with sweet, swirling lollipops are a chic way to infuse a sense of whimsy. Sugar highs are welcome at this party.
Speaking of which, wild patterned paper adds a psychedelic touch to cones of popcorn, & lining the tray in a bed of colorful jellybeans makes it decadent. Here are instructions for this set-up. A few appropriate songs for the party soundtrack? How about 'White Rabbit' (Jefferson Airplane), 'I am the Walrus' (Beatles), & 'Looking Glass' from Hypnogaja.
Take a cue from the Queen of Hearts & engage guests in a game of croquet pre-dinner. Of course unlike the Queen, we won't be using hedgehogs as balls or flamingos as mallets...but it's still an oh-so-royal way to enjoy cocktail hour.
Paper lanterns are guaranteed to cast a magical spell over the soiree. Keep lanterns in a limited color palette for sophistication & group tons of them together to form a dense canopy overhead. My favorite source for paper lanterns in every shape, size & color is Pearl River Mart.
"Suddenly she came upon a little three-legged table: there was nothing on it but a tiny golden key...she tried the little golden key in the lock, and to her great delight it fitted!"
One of the most clever ideas for seating assignments: each guest's name is scrawled on a salvaged door in gold ink. Next to their name, guests find a vintage key with a tag noting their table number.
A frilly, poufy dress is a must for this fantasy fete, and the short length allows for a night of dancing. Donning a coquettish hat with an oversized white rose is guaranteed to make any Queen of Hearts turn green with envy.

Halloween Costume
I'm going to be Rachel Zoe for Halloween! I got some accessories and practiced my hair the other night (below) but I am still finalizing dress and fur options (up to the last minute in good RZ fashion). Will post full out photos later (if they turn out).

Please leave suggestions of your favorite planners or websites! I'm currently using a Moleskine planner, but I don't like that there isn't a spread of each month with boxes. I used to use a Franklin Covey, but they are so bulky and corporate looking, and I'm just ready to move on.

Music :: White Rabbits
LOVE the White Rabbits. Especially the song "Percussion Gun". These are stills from the video. Probably one of the best music videos I've ever seen, watch it below. I'm really sad because they were in town last night with JET and Black Joe Lewis, but I had a lot of crap to do, and my brother is playing tonight at The Beaumont so I will definitely be there.
*Note added 11/02/09: I just found out that they are from Columbia, Missouri, and met while several were in school at MIZZOU (my alma mater)! Cool!
